As we all know by now, when it comes to certain movie and TV properties, studios are eager to find something they don’t just milk forever in the mainline way but spin off into something that can make them profit on all fronts. Ever since the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there have been MANY attempts to try and have that kind of interconnected success across other universes. Yet, in the case of Sony, it tried to bank off the success of the Spider-Man films in the MCU by doing stories about characters like Kraven The Hunter, Morbius, Madame Web, and Venom.
This “spinoff Spider-Verse,” if you will, always had a big mountain to climb. After all, Tom Holland was crushing it in the MCU, and HIS Spider-Verse film is one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Yet, for Sony’s films…they were lucky to make a profit at times. The Venom films did fine, but they were hardly great films overall. Even fans admit they were a “so bad it’s good” kind of thing. Madame Web and Morbius were emphatic bombs at the box office, and according to The Wrap, the upcoming Kraven The Hunter film will be the “final bow.”
According to them, sources say that all focus for them will be on the final entry in the Spider-Verse animated trilogy, Beyond The Spider-Verse, and the Spider-Man Noir piece starring Nic Cage. Oh, and the next MCU Spider-Man film, of course.
This will be a huge relief for fans if this is true, as it’s been downright painful seeing these films get made, drop to basically no fanfare, and then make people wonder why they exist after they bomb heavily.
