Netflix has issued a subpoena to Discord via California’s Northern District Court to gain information on one of Discord’s users who has been accused of one of the biggest leaks in anime history. The user known as jacejohns4n stepped forward and claimed responsibility for the leaks.
The leaks included the following anime:
- Princess Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain
- Ranma 1/2
- Terminator Zero
- Dan da Dan
- Kengan Ashura
- Heartstopper
These shows/movies were found on pirate sites months before their intended release although it was said that the video quality was rather poor. While it is not fully known how the Discord user received the leaks, Netflix did state that one of their post-production partners had been compromised. That partner was named as Iyuno, Inc.
Netflix claims reputational damages to themselves along with Iyuno, Inc. and Crunchyroll, the latter who acquired rights to stream some of the series on their services.
