The Pokemon franchise has been doing well for…well…almost 30 years now! Seriously, it’s been one of the top gaming franchises in terms of consistency for decades, and it’s not likely to slow down anytime soon. Even with certain recent missteps, people still buy the titles in bulk and want to experience new ways to enjoy them. Case in point: Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Gen 9 was a key part of the Nintendo Switch’s lineup and was the first of the franchise to embrace true open-world stylings. While the game had numerous technical issues, most still enjoyed it, and thus, sales soared.
Fast forward to now, and Famitsu reports that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has officially become the best-selling Pokemon title of all time in Japan! Just those two games have sold 8.3 million units, beating the previous record by Pokemon Red and Green, the true OGs of the franchise.
Just as important, Gen 9 is only about one million units away from being the best-selling Pokemon title worldwide! It’ll more than likely get there eventually, possibly within the next year. Either way, this shows why the pocket monsters still rule the world.
