It was announced by Torrent Freak that three major anime piracy websites, Noonoo, OKTOON, and TVWIKI have been shut down and their owner has been arrested. The arrest took place on November 9 and was carried out by The Ministry of Culture, and the Sports and Tourism’s Copyright Crime Scientific Investigation Unit.
When users tried to access the pirate sites, they were redirected to a message from the Korean government agency. The note reads:
“The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Copyright Crime Scientific Investigation Unit arrested the operator of the illegal streaming website Noonoo TV on November 9, 2024, and seized the illegal streaming website TVWIKI, and the illegal webtoon posting site OKTOON operated by the same operator.”
The same ministry previously led to the arrest of the operators of Ajitun, the country’s biggest web novel piracy site. These shutdowns come in the wake of the NAVER WEBTOOB $700K lawsuit.
