Monster Hunter Wilds seems to be a game that’s on the tip of everyone’s tongue and for good reason. As someone who enjoyed Worlds and Rises, not to mention the prior games, I can’t wait to play what Capcom has in store for us. However, despite the wait, Capcom has been dropping new information about Monster Hunter Wilds, such as this recent interview with the Italian gaming website, Multiplayer It, which was conducted during the 2024 Tokyo Game Show.
While the entire article is a good read, Ryozo Tsujimoto, Kaname Fujioka, and Yuya Tokuda, have dropped more information about the game, as well as answering questions that fans of the game have been asking. However, we’ve summarized the important bits from this interview.
- Cross-play was important for the game and as such, was built into the game from the start. However, there are features integrated into the game to disable cross-play at any time, even when searching for a single Quest, so there will be total freedom in terms of matchmaking.
- Monster Hunter Wilds will feature lobbies made up of 16 players, and all those players will appear simultaneously in Base Camp
- Offense skills have been relocated from armor to weapons instead. In Monster Hunter Worlds, for example, the skills or buffs were provided by armor, charms, or decorations.
- The decoration system has been overhauled to allow for more flexibility for players’ loadouts.
- The classic Quest Counter, the bulletin board in each settlement where you can choose a mission and, if you are in a multiplayer session, make sure everyone is ready before starting it for good, is still in place. However, there is also a new one that will work parallel to the original one.
- There’s constant talk of adding new weapons to the past Monster Hunter games, and while it hasn’t been done yet, doesn’t mean it’s off the table. Moreso than they are busy fine-tuning the existing weapons, and how to better them instead. As of now, a new weapon just isn’t the priority.
- Players have access to a weather forecast system. So, say you wanted to go hunting while it’s raining, you can then rest up until that weather is available. This is the first time that a Monster Hunter game has access to this.
There’s a lot more to this fantastic interview, so head on over to Multiplayer.it and give it a read.
Monster Hunter Wilds releases on February 28, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
