In an interview with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves staff, Yasuyuki Oda, KrispyKaiser, and Joshua Weatherford from SNK, Retro’s interview revealed several new pieces of information about the latest Fatal Fury game, set for release on April 25th next year. It was disclosed that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves already has three years of planned post-launch support, including DLCs. This is notable, as fighting games typically have a shelf life of 7-8 years before a new iteration appears these days.
City of the Wolves will feature 15-17 characters at launch, with 11 already confirmed, the most recent being Mai Shiranui, revealed at the end of the latest trailer. The interview also discussed the key differences between The King of Fighters and Fatal Fury.
DashFight also delved deep into their interview, posing some tougher questions about SNK’s current direction. They covered a range of topics, from the switch to Unreal Engine in KOF XV and Samurai Shodown instead of using the in-house KOF XIV engine, to the variety of fighting game archetypes SNK has developed.
They also discussed decisions regarding roster sizes for other titles, such as The King of Fighters, which typically features larger rosters at launch. One particularly broad question about SNK’s fall was directed toward understanding the circumstances behind the company’s shutdown. Additionally, there was discussion about how SNK has handled their recent collaboration with Street Fighter VI.
Both videos offer a few new details, including a new character select music that resembles the original Mark of the Wolves theme. In the footage, Terry and newcomer Vox Reaper face-off, while Rock and Marco make appearances later in the interview.
