Blizzard to Create AA Games Based on Existing Franchises

Microsoft announced that they have approved the formation of a new team within Blizzard Entertainment to work on smaller games (known as AA games) that utilize Blizzard Entertainment’s existing franchises such as Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, and Overwatch.

The team is comprised of members of King and Activision. With King involved, mobile gaming immediately comes to the front of one’s mind; however, there is no guarantee that any of these games will be made for mobile. The possibility is there as Microsoft also announced its three-pronged approach to developing games for Console, PC, and Mobile.

Ever since Microsoft made a bid to purchase Activision Blizzard, Phil Spencer has talked about the backlog of titles from the two studio giants. So, it’s no secret that with this purchase, Microsoft was interested in leveraging Activision Blizzard’s backlog of IPs.
