The Sword of Light is a powerful weapon in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. This weapon scales with Strength, Dexterity, and Faith, and it boasts a unique Holy Damage skill called Light. To obtain this weapon, you’ll first need to acquire the Stone-Sheathed Sword and then transform it at a specific altar.
How to Find the Stone-Sheathed Sword
The first step to obtaining the Sword of Light is to find the Stone-Sheathed Sword. This sword can be found at one of three altars in the game. Once you pick it up from one altar, it will disappear from the other two.
Altar 1: Fog Rift Catacombs
The easiest altar to reach is located in the Fog Rift Catacombs. To get there, cross the Ensis Greatbridge and follow the path northwest from the Castle Front Site of Grace. Inside, you’ll encounter spike traps. Bait these traps and look for a hole to jump into, which will transport you to a higher platform. From there, navigate to the secret area at the end of the room to find the altar and retrieve the Stone-Sheathed Sword.
Altar 2: Ruins of Unte
The second altar is located inside the Ruins of Unte in Scadu Altus. Head through the main gate of the Shadow Keep and proceed to the bottom of the stairs guarded by the Fire Knight. Next to the boats, you’ll see a ladder leading to a waterfall. Follow the path through the waterfall to a room with the Domain of Dragons painting. Hit the right wall to reveal a secret passage leading to a stone coffin. This will transport you to the Castle Watering Hole. Below, you’ll find the Ruins of Unte and the altar.
Altar 3: Ancient Ruins of Rauh
The final altar is in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh. Access this area through Shadow Keep. Move through the Living Jar area and use the bridge to go west. Continue through the ruins, past the Furnace Golem, to reach the Rauh Ancient Ruins West Site of Grace. From there, walk southwest to find a staircase leading to a garden. Cross the garden to enter the rotted ruins and look for an invisible bridge to find the altar.
How to Transform the Stone-Sheathed Sword into the Sword of Light
Now that you have the Stone-Sheathed Sword, you can transform it into the Sword of Light. Take the sword to an unused Altar of Light and Darkness and interact with it. You cannot use the same altar where you found the sword. When prompted, choose to raise the Stone-Sheathed Sword to the light. This will transform it into the Sword of Light.
