Ubisoft Toronto has announced the layoff of 33 employees as part of its strategy to streamline operations. This decision comes during a difficult year for the gaming industry, which has seen significant job cuts across various companies.

As reported by PC Gamer, Ubisoft Toronto explained that the layoffs aim to better position the studio to meet its ambitious goals. “Ubisoft Toronto has decided to conduct a targeted realignment to ensure it can deliver on its ambitious roadmap,” said a company representative. They also expressed commitment to supporting the affected employees through severance and career assistance.

The studio is currently leading the development of a remake of the original Splinter Cell and recently joined the efforts on the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which is expected to release in 2026. Despite the layoffs, Ubisoft assures that these projects will proceed as planned. “Our plan remains unchanged, and our teams are working to deliver on the Splinter Cell remake and other projects at the studio,” the company stated.

Earlier this year, Ubisoft also reorganized its Global Publishing and APAC divisions, resulting in job cuts. This trend reflects a broader industry challenge, where several companies have announced layoffs due to a combination of economic pressures and strategic realignments.
