I’ll admit, going into today’s Nintendo Direct, I didn’t know what to expect, and can you blame me? Between all the “leaks,” rumors, and hopes for the Direct, it was impossible to know or say for certain what might happen or what would show up. Leave it to Nintendo, though, to shock everyone and prove that the Switch still has plenty of games left to enjoy before things shift to the next system. So let’s talk about the best parts of the Direct, shall we?
First up, literally, was the reveal of Mario & Luigi: Brothership! Yep! It’s a continuation of the Mario & Luigi RPG series! This time, the brothers get sucked up into an all-new world and will be island hopping to try and find a way home! With new abilities, foes, and places to explore, things are going to get even crazier for the Mario Bros!
Are you looking for a unique new RPG to play? Well, Farmagia might be for you, then! You literally farm monsters and then put them to work to fight foes!
Or, if you want something familiar yet new, the official announcement of Dragon Quest III’s remake is here! The HD-2D remake looks beautiful, and the head of Dragon Quest himself announced that the original two titles are getting remakes for 2025!
If you’re like one of my co-workers, you LOVE the Mario Party franchise, and I have great news on that front, as the Nintendo Direct revealed Super Mario Party Jamboree! The game touts itself as the “biggest Mario Party game ever,” with multiple new maps, numerous new characters to play as, various modes both old and new to try out, and more!
Arguably, one of the biggest revelations from the Nintendo Direct is that of The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. In the title, you’ll actually get to play as Princess Zelda! Link has been swallowed up by a mysterious rift, and it’s up to the princess to save her kingdom using not only her wits, but a special staff that lets her make replicas of various things, from items to monsters! This is truly a Legend of Zelda title like no other!
Think I’m done? OBJECTION!!! Capcom dropped a big surprise when the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection was revealed! This brings all the main Ace Attorney titles together on Switch (outside of the crossover with Professor Layton) for everyone to enjoy! That includes the second game in the spinoff series, “Prosecutor’s Gambit,” which never released in the US!
Finally, and possibly most importantly, METROID PRIME 4!!!! Yes, the game has finally gotten a new trailer, including a release window of 2025! Details are still light, but the first gameplay trailer looks good, and I can’t wait to play it.
With these announcements and others I didn’t get around to, it’s clear that this Nintendo Direct was meant to send a message. That message is, “The Switch is still something to pay attention to!” Message received Nintendo.
