CD Projekt RED Plans to Speed Up Game Releases

CD Projekt RED, the developer known for popular RPGs like The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, has announced plans to increase the frequency of their game releases. This news came during their Q1 2024 financial results report.

The company’s joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, confirmed during an earnings call that they aim to release more titles at a faster pace. He mentioned that they have been working on multiple projects simultaneously, including Cyberpunk 2 in Boston and Polaris in Europe. Additionally, other projects like Project Sirius and The Witcher 1 remake are in development.

CD Projekt RED currently has 407 staff members working on Polaris, 56 on Orion (Cyberpunk Sequel), 39 on Sirius, 20 on Hadar (a new IP), and 96 on shared services like localization and quality assurance. This multi-project approach is intended to shorten the development cycles that have historically spanned five to six years.

The studio’s strategy reflects a growing trend in the gaming industry to cope with long development times for AAA titles. By balancing multiple projects, CD Projekt RED hopes to launch several games within the next decade, moving beyond the pace of just two major releases in one decade.
