After a long hiatus, MultiVersus has returned to consoles and PC. Following the 2023 shutdown, the game is back with more tools, characters, and all the zaniness you can handle from Warner Bros. The twitter has been pretty active with updating players about any release bugs and issues for MultiVersus during the launch today.
We need to make a quick change on the backend. You will receive an error, but just jump back in!

What’s new, doc?
Several changes have been addressed by Player First Studios and Warner Bros. Rollback Netcode and character rebalancing were the highlights mentioned for PVP play. New characters have also appeared. While Banana Guard, The Joker, Jason Voorhees, and Agent Smith have been announced with the first three getting gameplay videos, other characters are forthcoming. However, Rick from Rick And Morty, and Marvin The Martian, were seen in the launch trailer. On the official site, Agent Smith is the only new character that does not have a spot as of yet.
Camera / Character Sizes
Camera tracking has changed to be more dynamic during fights, zooming in and panning out to make sure to get all of the action, especially during 1 v 1s. Characters are also larger, but still to scale. According to Player First,”We think it’s very important to be able to react quickly to what your opponents are up to, and having larger characters really leads to improved readability. “
New Mechanics
Parry and Dash Attacks were added. Parrying is similar to other fighting games’ interpretations, offering another defensive option, allowing time to make the next move. For Dash Attacks, tapping forward twice brings it out for combo strings whether to start, extend, or end them.
Rifts
Similar to other PVE Smash modes with certain themes that the enemies or characters would follow. One example is where Joker Infiltrates The Batcave. These will follow Attunements for seasons such as Chaos, which relates to The Joker. There is also a Co-Op version of Rifts, in which both characters will share rewards from their victories through it. To mix things up more, mutators will be added to Rift matches to add more antics to the battles. Mini-games such as volleyball are included.
For example, have you ever wanted to try full aerial MultiVersus combat without ever hitting the ground? The Infinite Jumps mutator could be up your alley. Or, maybe your tastes are a little more eccentric and you’ve dreamed of using your chicken hands to turn your opponent into a rotisserie chicken… then Chicken Gauntlets mutator might be for you.
Battle Pass
Premium Battle Pass Season 1 will be free for anyone who logs in by June 11. The duration has been extended to 8 weeks. Both free and premium tiers have been updated to give out more. Ringouts, character variants, taunts, and currency can be earned from either tier. Gleamium can be earned here, also, for new characters or the next Battle Pass.
The final part of the pass is repeatable, also. Jason Voorhees is the first character to gain from this. Banana Guard can be unlocked by completing the Tutorial for the seven days post-launch for everyone. A new currency set has been introduced, removing gold from the 4 type set.
Perks
Perks have been updated with everyone, including Open Beta players, to start from zero. Mastery tracks have also been reset to keep things fair to everyone.
New Stages
The city of Townsville has also been confirmed as a stage last week. This backdrop should be familiar to any Powerpuff Girls fans. While no Powerpuff Girls characters have been announced as of yet(I’m hoping for Mojo Jojo), the stage is here. Mojo Jojo throws a lot of items and lasers at this stage.
MultiVersus is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
