A little while ago, we talked about Nintendo settling a lawsuit with Yuzu. Now that the dust has settled, Nintendo has decided to go after copies of the Yuzu Emulator.
Nintendo has submitted a total of 8,535 DMCA takedown notices for Yuzu emulator forks on GitHub. Naturally, when the lawsuit was announced, there were those who sought to preserve the emulator’s code. This enabled programmers to make copies and upload them to the internet, mainly on GitHub.
Some of the copies, namely Suyu, made an attempt to circumvent Nintendo’s claims by having users provide their own cryptographic keys from their Switch. This did not work either as GitHub took down their repository after a DMCA claim from Nintendo.
Nintendo continues to press forward in protecting its intellectual property. Yuzu may be the headline right now but it’s just another footnote in Nintendo’s long battle.
