Ahead of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth arriving last month, one question was undoubtedly on fans’ minds. I’m sure it has kept countless folks up at night. Finally, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth responds to the question we were all dying to have answered: Can you take Cait Sith out on a date at the Gold Saucer?
Spoilers and terrible cat puns to follow.
So, Can You Romance Cait Sith?
In short, yes. But there are a few cat-veats. For one, while Cait Sith leads the nighttime excursion, Cid and Vincent also come along. Bu hey, the more the mew-ier. It’s less of a date and more of a “guys night,” with one of those guys being a cat-robot-thing.
The more important point to note is that this date doesn’t follow the meow-chanics of the others. Cait Sith doesn’t have an affinity meter like the other characters, so you likely won’t get this event on a first play through—unless all affinities are equal. Rather, it becomes easily available after you beat the game, but you’ll have to select it first.
Luckily, it’s not terribly hard to do. Once you complete Rebirth, paws the game, go to the menu and select “settings.” Then go to “extra settings” and for “Chapter 12 Companion” choose “other.” Note that this will also let you choose any companion you want, as long as you have over a 50% affinity level with them.
You can also choose to skip Zack’s story here, which will allow you to pounce into your date sooner once you go to Chapter 12. Note that the Cait Sith date doesn’t happen in Chapter 8, unlike the other characters that have small date sections there as well.
The Cat’s Pajamas
Once you’ve done that, use Chapter Selection to go to Chapter 12. Head to the Gold Saucer and then Battle Square and follow Aerith. Feel free to skip cutscenes here, nothing new happens fur now. Then, sleep at the Haunted Hotel. You’ll have a short section as Zack unless you opted to skip it. Then, you’ll get a knock at the door.
And who could it be at this hour? Why, none other than the feline fortune teller, the robotic rogue, Cait Sith! With Vincent and Cid behind him, he wants to see how you’re feline tonight. He explains that he decided to take everyone out for a night at the theater, but only you three were awake. Lucky you!
Head to see Loveless and you’ll get a bit of extra dialogue up top. Once the play itself begins, things will pretty much play out as standard. Move through the minigame as normal. And then once it ends, head to the SkyWheel for the real highlight of the evening. I won’t spoil the fun, but Cid and Vincent might, to Cait Sith’s chagrin.
Con-cat-ulations! You’ve experienced the special “mystery companion” rendezvous in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Nothing else changes from here, aside from Cait Sith now being a party member for the following Colosseum battles.
And if you don’t want to go out for a night on the town with a weird little cat dude, first of all, are you kitten me? That said, you can repeat the steps above to get a date with any party member you like, so long as you’ve successfully bonded with them through conversations, side quests, and Synergy Abilities. Cait Sith needs none of that, since he loves you no meow-tter what.
Alright, that last pun was a big stretch, I’ll stop right meow.
