Ready to go into beast mode? Final Fantasy VII Rebirth brings the classic Kujata summon back to the remade game. Players will have to defeat the mythical bull in Chadley’s combat simulator to unlock the summon. After Titan, Phoenix, and Alexander, Kujata offers a unique challenge, if not a harder one. So here’s a guide to help you tame the beast.
Come Prepared for Kujata
As per usual, you can weaken the summon by going to the corresponding Sanctuaries before battle. This also strengthens your Materia for when you do get it. Kujata’s Sanctuaries are located in the Gongaga region. The first one is right by the northern entrance where you’ll arrive, with the second slightly past it as you make your way to the town. The third one is a bit out of the way. Once you go through the town, it lies on the other side of the ruined temple to the southwest.
Once that’s done, you can return to Chadley to battle the weakened summon. The notable gimmick of the battle is that Kujata can cycle through three elemental types: lightning, fire, and ice. When it’s in lightning mode, hit it with wind magic. For fire mode, hit it with ice. And for ice, hit it with fire. Yuffie is a decent choice for this battle since she can easily cycle through magic types with her ninjutsu ability once you’ve thrown it. That said, I had the best luck with Aerith’s spells, since Yuffie has low defense. But really, the important thing is to just make sure you have the best wind, ice, and fire attacks at your disposal.
The Battling of the Bull
As a giant bull, Kujata typically uses charge attacks, barreling towards your party members. I found these tough to block, but easy to dodge. Thunderous Stomp is a particularly heavy move (no kidding). But I found dodging works surprisingly well. So you may wish to do the same. If Kujata seems fixated on a single party member, use the time to fire away with a corresponding magic attack based on what Kujata would be weak to in the moment. When it’s not flashing with a magic type, take the chance to heal.
Rinse and repeat, and eventually Kujata will go down. It may seem like you’re not doing much damage, but you’re just trying to fill up its stagger meter with your magic attacks. It’s actually a much more straightforward battle than previous summons. Once you stagger it, Kujata will take all the damage you throw at it pretty hard.
However, Kujata still has one attack to watch out for: Tri-Disaster. Once Kujata has cycled through all three of its magic forms, it will unleash a massive attack of fire, ice, and lightning. You can’t really avoid it unless you defeat it before then. However, since it occurs almost immediately after the three elemental forms, you can anticipate it and heal up or cast Manaward once Kujata enters its third form. Keep exploiting those elemental weaknesses, and you’ll fell this giant beast.
And with that, the mythical Kujata becomes yours. Excitingly, not only will it give you access to its charge attack, but you’ll also get one of each of its elemental attacks. Quite the versatile summon!
