All true Star Wars fans know the name Dave Filoni, as he’s the genius behind arguably the best parts of the franchise. He did The Clone Wars, he was the guy behind Rebels, and then he helped make many of the live-action series that are fan-favorites, including giving us The Mandalorian. Fast forward several years, and we’re going to get a special movie about Din Djarin and his “foundling” via The Mandalorian & Grogu, and Filoni will once again be there to help make things happen.
However, many fans weren’t expecting a movie, they were expecting a fourth season of the hit Disney+ show. But in a chat with Entertainment Tonight, Filoni noted how excited he was for Jon Favreau to take the directing helm once again and make things shine!
“There’s so much spinning in the galaxy right now. You know me better than to commit to any one thing, no mind trick works on me. I’m excited about what we’re doing right now, but the movie, I think, is gonna be great. With Jon at the helm, it’s gonna be fantastic, and he’s so well-studied in Star Wars now, so he’s got a great shorthand and I love collaborating with him. Just excited to share the future of what we’re doing.”
Disney has released their “movie slate” for the next couple of years, and The Mandalorian & Grogu has been given a release date of May 22, 2026! As noted by ComicBook.com, if this date holds, it’ll be the first of two Star Wars movies that year.
