Just when you thought the Nintendo Switch couldn’t get any better…it gets even better. Not only via the games that are coming out for it, but the sales of the system itself. We all know that the Switch is on its “last legs,” we’ve noted it a few times on the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast recently, but the sales of the Switch console continue to boggle minds. As noted by Bloomberg, the most recent financial data for Nintendo has revealed that their system has sold over 139 million units!
Not only is that impressive, but that means it’s within spitting distance of the top two slots in hardware sales history! Currently, the only two systems that have sold more than the Nintendo Switch are the Nintendo DS and the PS2. They sit at 154/155 million, respectively. Given that we don’t know when the Switch successor will arrive, nor how long the “transition” between the two systems will be for some users, it’s fair to think that it could reach beyond 155 million, given enough of a push.
Plus, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa noted that the Switch is their “main business,” so they might have a few surprises left for us.
