Forever Entertainment and Storm Trident have announced they are working on an old beat ’em up title from Data East that isn’t Bad Dudes, called Night Slaskers: Remake, which will be released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG). This updated version of Data East’s title is similar to Sega’s Streets of Rage and Capcom’s Final Fight games.
However, unlike the other aforementioned games, Night Slashers: Remake has a horror theme going on for it, and from the looks of the trailer, this won’t be a nerfed version like the original North American release. Back then, blood and gore in North America were frowned upon (Ask Mortal Kombat), and we ended up with the less gory version, but not this time.
In Night Slaskers: Remake, players will pick from three characters, Jake Hunter, Christopher Smith, and Hong Hong Hua Zhao, to take on scores of monsters that go bump in the night. From vampires, werewolves, and more to make their wake to a final boss and attempt to take it down. It was an interesting title back then, and I wonder what else Forever Entertainment and Storm Trident will do to bring Night Slaskers to the modern era.
So far, we can see that the game features updated visuals, but I’m not a fan of what I’m seeing. Hopefully, there’s a way to return to the original visuals, or maybe these will be cleaned up.
However, I am a bit confused, as the teaser trailer shows four playable character slots, but there are only three playable characters. So, who’s the fourth?
Currently, Night Slashers: Remake doesn’t have a release date.
