During what’s supposed to be the happiest time of the year, there has been another round of layoffs due to the Embracer Group’s attempt at restructuring. Today, various people from 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks have been affected.
I’ve been following the Twitter account of Scott Miller, the original founder of Apogee Software, which later became 3D Realms. He has stated layoffs have affected all parts of the company, and so far, it appears that at least half of 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks have been laid off.
Several sources have told me this bad news… Sorry to hear about another drop of the axe by Embracer Group, this time landing on Danish 3D Realms. A lot of people, including core devs, will be looking for work asap. Hopefully they land jobs soon. This one hits me hard because I…

With that many people being laid off, it’s safe to say that the entire company could be closed or sold off, which doesn’t benefit anyone other than Embracer Group. So far, neither the Embracer Group nor Slipgate has made any official announcement or comment about the recent layoffs.
I guess 2023 wouldn't be complete without me losing the best job I've ever had in my life 😅
I'll figure it out… I guess.

This round of bad news follows the closure of another Embracer Group-owned company, Free Radical.
For those who haven’t followed the situation, the Embracer Group has purchased several IPs and companies and was counting on an influx of cash of $2 billion from the Saudi-backed company Savvy Games Group. This left Embracer Group with way less money than they had initially anticipated. This caused Embracer Group to start a restricting process, which means they have to either sell off those IPs and companies they purchased or, as we’ve seen in the last few months, lay off vast numbers of employees.
This entire thing has been a complete disaster and has done nothing beneficial since Embracer Group stated this. All it has done is show the world it has zero clue about what it was doing and has ruined people’s careers and livelihoods.
Sadly, I doubt this will be the last time we hear something negative about Embracer Group, layoffs, or companies being closed. And I, for one, am tired of hearing this to the point I wish I could change the channel.
