There are many “What Ifs?” in the gaming space, but one of the biggest on the Nintendo side of things is Mother 3. The game is the followup to the beloved franchise that we know as Earthbound in the West. We’ve gotten the first and second entries from the series but never the third, and it’s become the topic of MANY fan pleas and petitions to Nintendo. But even after all these years, we don’t know if it’ll ever get translated to the West.
The twist is that the creator of the franchise, Shigesato Itoi, said to IGN that Mother 3 almost DID get brought over but that Nintendo said it wasn’t as “simple” as fans make it sound:
“I’ve talked about it with Nintendo before. Apparently, they were presented with the offer to use the translation, but they said it wasn’t quite as simple as that. I think it’d be really interesting if they took up the offer. It’d be hard to make something like, say, an automobile with fans. But doing it with software, I believe there’d be a chance to make something that would be better than what the company could have made on their own.”
Well…now is the time to UNCOMPLICATE IT! Plus, given that we just got a remake of Super Mario RPG (read our review!), maybe Nintendo just goes full-tilt and does a remake of the game!
