Have you heard about Lethal Company? The indie horror game arrived on Steam on October 23rd, and has quickly taken the internet by storm. The game tasks players with making ventures to various moons to collect scrap to sell to the titular company. Between the co-op gameplay and the wacky yet macabre visuals, Lethal Company has achieved widespread popularity.
As of this time of writing, Lethal Company marks the top-selling game on Steam. Note that the official list also includes other merchandise, so it’s only surpassed by the Steam Deck itself. This marks the fifth week that Lethal Company has landed on the list of top selling games on Steam.
What’s perhaps most impressive is that Lethal Company is an indie game with relatively little marketing. And yet it surpasses largescale AAA games such as Destiny 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3. Zeekerss has developed and published other games, but this is the most popular.
On Steam itself, Lethal Company currently boasts over 90,000 player reviews with a consensus of “overwhelmingly positive.” I checked out the game myself last week, and while it is bizarre and has a bit of a learning curve, I had a blast playing with friends and strategizing about how to make quota. It also has the appeal of exploration, as players can visit a variety of moons with unique flora and fauna. Most prove deadly.
If you’re curious, you can check out Lethal Company yourself on Steam for the low-price of $9.99. Note that it is in early access, so some features may change. But clearly, there’s enough gameplay to get folks excited about its future.
