Hideki Kamiya Says Bayonetta Franchise Could Continue Without Him

There have been many big video game stories in 2023, but one of the more shocking ones has to be the departure of Hideki Kamiya from PlatinumGames. He was the co-creator of the studio and praised working there for a long time, even making some of the biggest games the studio ever did. However, he’s left and has a year to do whatever he wants before he’s allowed, per his contract with Platinum, to make video games again. However, that’s left fans curious about the fate of Bayonetta, among other things.

After all, he was the man behind the main trilogy and oversaw the origin game that came out in March. In a YouTube video, Hideki Kamiya revealed that he did have a 9-part story for Bayonetta, but now, it may have to continue without him:

“As I explained earlier, I worked on Bayonetta 1, 2, 3 and Origins,” he said. “I’ve talked about this in various interviews, that the Bayonetta series would consist of a total of nine episodes, and that I wanted to grow the franchise as the Bayonetta ‘Saga’, but it seems like I may have to take the full saga to the grave with me It’s a shame. It’s not like I own the Bayonetta IP, but I suppose those who do will probably keep it going.”

Given the ending of Bayonetta 3, many were curious how the franchise would continue, and now, even though the fourth entry has been confirmed, we’ll have to see if Platinum can recapture the magic without Hideki at the helm.
