PlayStation has announced that as of November 13th, 2023, the PS4 or PS5 will no longer have access to Twitter integration. This means that people have lost a way to post screenshots and short videos to popular online social media and social networking service.
According to the official PlayStation website, “As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an X account to do so).
We don’t know if this is due to PlayStation not wanting to pay for Twitter’s API anymore or if this is due to more Elon Musk shenanigans. If I were a betting man, I’d go with the latter, as Musk has been making all sorts of non-smart decisions, which has put the life of Twitter X in jeopardy. I could go on about that, but for the sake of my sanity, it’s best that I don’t.
PlayStation isn’t the first console to lose access to Twitter/X, either. Earlier this year, Xbox also lost access to Twitter on April 25th, 2023. While we don’t know the deal with PlayStation, Xbox refused to pay for using Twitter’s API, which used to be free until Elon Musk bought the social network.
At this point, the only console that has access to Twitter will be Nintendo’s Switch, and seeing what happened to the PlayStation and Xbox, maybe the clock is ticking on that.
