Outposts are an important part of the space adventure in Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield. With Outposts you can make any barren planet your base, your point of operation, including mining resources, manufacturing stuff, research facilities, and more.
You can build up to 8 outposts in total. However, with the Planetary Habitation skill, you can add 8 more outposts, making it to a total of 16.
How To Choose A Planet To Build An Outpost
It is important to notice the available resources on a particular planet before choosing to build an outpost. You can always scan a planet by getting close to it. After a successful scan, the coloured map will show the complete list of available resources. Although it can be tough to find a perfect spot for your first outpost, ideally, you should look for at least Iron and Aluminium that you can mine directly.
In general, the outpost modules will take a lot of different items to build. So when you choose, you should always try to find places that have some of these:
- Aluminum
- Iron
- Copper
- Nickel
- Beryllium
- Tungsten
- Cobalt
- Helium-3
How To Build An Outpost
There are no required quests to unlock Outposts in Starfield. Once you have decided which planet to build your Outpost on, you can simply land there, open up your scanner, and construct an Outpost Beacon. Once you have done that, the build mode will start. After you have built your first Beacon, you’ll get the option to build various items such as Power Generators, Storage, Structures, and more. You will also get the option to build resource extractors.
You can always modify the outpost buildings, and this will refund the materials that you used previously to build them. You’ll need a power source to run your operations, so you need to make sure you have that while you start building various modules and structures.
If you find some planets that have been inhabited by other creatures, so, in that case, make sure to place some turrets to protect your belongings. You can always assign a crew to your outpost; however, to do that, you’ll need to build a Crew Station in that outpost. This will allow you to reap the benefits of the specific skill tree without investing in your own skill points.
You can also send resources from one planet to another using your outposts. You’ll need to place a Cargo link at each of the outposts to connect with each other
