If you haven’t heard by now, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive are bringing a classic title to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 via Red Dead Redemption. The all-time great title brought the Wild West to life and was so good that fans were willing to wait many years for a proper sequel. Fast forward to now, and a port is coming to certain systems…but it’ll be fully priced at $50. Now, on the one hand, the game will feature the main game and the “Undead Nightmare” DLC. But to many fans, that’s not enough.
First off, the game is a port of a 13-year-old title being brought onto two systems that don’t really need the game, to be honest. Second, the title isn’t a remaster or an upgraded version of any kind. It’s just a port. That’s rubbing many gamers the wrong way. But in a chat with IGN, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said the price was perfectly fine:
“That’s just what we believe is the commercially accurate price for it.”
Many fans are taking “commercially accurate” to mean that the company is trying to make as much profit off it as possible. That’s not exactly a bad thing to point out, as, again, Red Dead Redemption has been out for a LONG time. Plus, Xbox gamers can get the game for $20 cheaper thanks to Xbox Live, hence why the Xbox One isn’t getting the port.
But of course, the biggest way to show the company you’re not interested in their “commercially accurate” pricing is to just…not get it.
