Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive have released gameplay footage of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, showcased during the 2023 Skulls Showcase. Hosted by Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun’s lead actor and Warhammer superfan Rahul Kohli, the event has given players their first look at the Tyranid onslaught they will face at release.
In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, players will assume the role of some of the greatest warriors of the Imperium Embody, a Space Marine of the Ultramarines Chapter, a superhuman warrior who protects humanity from untold horrors. In this gameplay footage, we get to see several of the attacks that the player can utilize, including the signature chainsword that can be used to swipe at enemies or eviscerate them using its chainsaw-like ability. There’s even a section where we see scores of Tyranids being mowed down, similar to that of World War Z.
When the original Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine game dropped in 2011, I instantly fell in love. It was a godly combination of Space Marines, played as a third-person shooter similar to the Gears of War titles that were all the rage back then. The gameplay was great, and more than anything, it was fun. Except, when I beat the game, and there were hints that a sequel was to come… except it didn’t, as THQ had gone bankrupt, I was in tears. Of course, that all changed when it was revealed during 2022 The Game Awards show that Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment were working on a follow-up after all these years.
I’ve been waiting for this game to get released for so long, and seeing the trailers at PAX East 2022 did help matters. We’re finally getting some gameplay, and I can’t wait to jump back into the massive hulking Space Marine armor again.
Space Marine 2 still doesn’t have a release date, but when it does get released, it will be playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
