The Story
The first day of the fourth event is upon us and Maple Tree has its strategies all set up and ready to go! The first day of the event is all about guarding the orb, using Sally to sneak and steal, and other two-man cells to attack and thin out the competition.
The strategy works as they end up racking up a nice amount of orbs but not enough to get them into first place. When the second day comes, all of the weaker guilds have been eliminated so things are going to get a bit tougher from here on out. Sally goes on a sneaking mission and ends up getting overwhelmed. Maple gets a message from her that she might die so she springs into action to rescue her. After that, they go with Plan B: Unleash the Maple!
Maple goes on a tear and brings back NINE orbs all by herself. She then takes herself, Mai, and Yui out but ends up going against a stronger guild that includes Mii and her deadly flames! It looks like we get Mii vs Maple at the start of volume 7!
Characters
To be honest, there really wasn’t any character development at all unless you want to talk about how far all of Maple Tree’s members have come combat-wise. If that’s the case, with the exception of Mai and Yui, all of them have grown so strong that they can take out smaller guilds with ease… even with as little as 1-2 people. Mai and Yui do end up getting into a fight with Dread and even though they lost, they can still hold their own pretty well.
Maple Tree is a force to be reckoned with and even with eight people they are feared by almost everyone in the game. I guess as a whole, that’s progress and development!
Final Thoughts
There really isn’t much to say about this volume. It was all action from beginning to end. Since we are right in the middle of a game-wide event, this was to be expected. The funny thing is, everyone in Maple Tree is so overpowered, battles only last a single page. It’s death and destruction everywhere they go!
It isn’t until Maple, Mai, and Yui go out that we end up getting a real sense of danger. Until then, the plot armor was massively thick with all of the guild members and while it is fun to see a bunch of cute girls dunk on an entire server while laughing it up the entire time, it did get a bit old. I’m glad some resistance was met as it makes things a bit more interesting. The sad part is, since Maple and company are so overpowered, I’m actually rooting for them to lose the event to show that even if they are super strong, they can still be humbled and defeated.
Plus, I’m sure the developers of the game would love to see that happen, too!
While I’m sure Maple will beat Mii in the next volume, that’ll still leave some of the top guilds in the game for them to contend with. We’ll have to see if Maple Tree really has what it takes to cross that finish line!
