The Mortal Kombat YouTube channel released a short video, “It Is Almost Time,” that shows a clock ticking. Suddenly, when the clock is about to turn 12, it stops momentarily and fast forwards to 1, altogether skipping 12. Yep, more teasing, but what could this mean? Is this a tease of a Mortal Kombat reboot? Will this still be Mortal Kombat 12 or something else?
Well, if you look at the clock, you’ll see that it matches up with the latest Mortal Kombat tease that was shown in the Netherrealm Thank You video that was released a few weeks ago. So, what exactly is being teased this time? Well, I have a thought.
As seen in this video, the clock’s hour-hand skips 12 and goes straight to 1, which could indicate a reboot of sorts. While we have been claiming that the next Mortal Kombat would be Mortal Kombat 12, that would only make sense if Shang Tsung had won in Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath. However, if this new teaser is any indication, it would mean that the next game will be following Fire God Liu Kang’s ending. In that ending, Liu Kang defeats Shang Tsung, goes back in time, and informs Great Kung Lao that he will train him for the events to come.

For the events to come, meaning the future Mortal Kombat tournaments. With Fire God Liu Kang going back in time, he is effectively creating a new timeline which would be a reboot of the series, which having the clock skipping ahead to 1 could mean.
I guess we need to go back and call this the next Mortal Kombat, as Netherrealm is definitely playing a game with our emotions, that’s for sure. When will Netherrealm finally reveal the game? Well, seeing how seeing we’re about to move into the Summer season and there’s going to be a number of various game showcases, including Xbox and PlayStation, as well as the Summer Game Fest, it could be revealed during them. Or it could happen during the upcoming EVO 2023, the largest fighting game tournament in the world, which also happens to be taking place this upcoming August 2023.
Whatever it gets revealed and whatever it ultimately ends up being called, I just can’t wait to get my hands on it.
