Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG title developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros Games. Set in the magical world inspired by JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series, players start their journey as fifth-year students when they start Hogwarts Legacy. With so many things coming from the original Harry Potter franchise, the game can be a bit overwhelming for the starters, so in this Hogwarts Legacy beginners guide, we’ll be discussing every single point that will make the gameplay walkthrough like a piece of cake.
As you start your journey at Hogwarts, you first get the option to choose your house, which does not play any big role in further gameplay. The basic storyline remains the same irrespective of the house you choose. The only difference is some of the dialogues and the gear colours.
After you are done choosing your preferred house, you are given a massive world to explore, a lot of tasks to finish, and new mechanisms to learn. As a player, you should first grasp the basic things, understand the menu, explore the castle (as you can not go outside yet), and hopefully follow the tips below that will help you level up your game.
Understand the Spells and Gear
The first thing you need to learn is the basics of Spells and Gear. There are a total of 31 main spells and additional 3 spells for taking care of the beasts that you’ll unlock as you progress in the game. These 31 spells are divided into 7 types – essential spells (grey), control spells (yellow), force spells (violet), damage spells (red), utility spells (light grey), transfiguration spells (light green), and 3 unforgivable curses (deep green). On the other hand, Gear comes in different rarities and is as important as the spells. They add offense and defense value to your character based on level and rarities. Legendary gears also come with the option to be upgraded and add traits. However, you would need to unlock the Loom in the Room of Requirements to do that.
Unlock as many Floo Flames as possible while you explore
Floo Flames are the fast travel points in Hogwarts Legacy. The university itself has plenty of them that you’ll come across as you explore, so the more you unlock, the faster you can transport from any place to your destination. The world of Hogwarts Legacy is pretty huge so these become a key factor in your story progress speed even if you have your broom and flying mount.
Side Quests add a lot of value
As you progress through the story, you’ll slowly unlock many side quests, including assignments from different professors. Treat them as important as the main story quest. Because not only will those unlock some nice spells, but also, main quests are sometimes linked to them.
Other side quests like Merlin’s Trials help in increasing the inventory slot. Broom Racing Events and Crossed Wands Dueling Club helps in learning different spell combinations and getting broom upgrades.
Invest your Skill Points to upgrade the right talents
After completing ‘The Map Chamber’ main quest, you’ll unlock the Talent section which is more like a skill tree. Every time you level up, you’ll be rewarded with a skill point that you can use for unlocking a talent. Talents are a basic upgradation of the spells you use. So be careful where you invest your skill points.
There are a total of 5 categories of Talents. These are Spells (focuses on damage upgradation), Dark Arts (gets you dark magic), Core (helps in upgrading the basic and essential abilities), Stealth (helps in upgrading the stealth abilities), and Room of Requirement (helps with Potions and Plants).
Chests and Puzzles give handsome rewards
You’ll come across different types of chests and puzzles as you explore the university as well as the massive open world. Chests often drop random gears, conjuration recipes for Room of Requirement, and even money. Sometimes these chests are locked behind Arithmancy Doors. If you are particularly farming money, you should go after the Eyeball Chests. However, you can always sell the unnecessary gear in the Hogsmeade for some extra cash.
Room of Requirements will upgrade your gameplay significantly
The Room of Requirements can be termed as your personal space in Hogwarts. However, it is much more than a regular personal space. With Room of Requirements, you’ll be able to harvest your own plants, brew your own potion, and even keep beasts and nurture them.
The Room of Requirements is unlocked after you are generally 7 to 8 hours into the story already. The various features are unlocked as you complete the quests given by Deek, the elf who generally looks after the space. So utilizing the Room of Requirements will significantly help in your gameplay, from brewing everything you need to upgrading your gear, to making some extra cash by selling off the newly bred beasts, the possibility is infinite!
Shops and Vendors can make your life easier, sometimes!
During different quests, you’ll feel the need of certain Potions or other stuff that you may not have in your inventory. In these cases, the shops in Hogsmeade and individual vendors can be very useful. Each shop has its own specialty.
- Ollivanders: Lets you choose your wand
- Spintwitches: Lets you unlock and upgrade your broom
- The Magic Neep: Lets you buy items for harvesting
- J. Pippin’s Potions The place for all things Potions
- Tomes and Scrolls: For getting Conjuration Recipes
- Dogsweed and Deathcap: Lets you buy seeds and plants
- Madam Snelling’s Tress Emporium: To change your character’s appearance
Other than buying, you can also sell the extra things that you do not need for some extra money. Most of these shops will let you sell your inventory that you are not using.
