For DC Comics fans, the hits just keep on coming in the worst of ways. The DCEU is dead, and the DCU is coming in…some form; we honestly don’t know what form just yet, but it’ll be announced soon enough. The Arrowverse is riding off into the sunset soon, with The Flash ending via its upcoming season with Superman & Lois likely not being far behind. Some of the only uncertain properties were that of Doom Patrol and Titans over on HBO Max. But as The Hollywood Reporter reveals, their future is now sealed.
We say this because both shows have been confirmed to be ending with their current fourth seasons. Both aired the first half of their fourth runs before the end of 2022 with the back halves coming soon enough. Those will be the final episodes, according to HBO Max:
“While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings,” an HBO Max spokesperson said in a statement. “We are grateful to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for making such thrilling, action-packed, heartfelt series. We thank Titans showrunner Greg Walker, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Richard Hatem, and the team at Weed Road Pictures. For Doom Patrol, we celebrate showrunner Jeremy Carver and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson. For four seasons, fans have fallen in love with the Titans and Doom Patrol, investing in their trials and tribulations, and in their legendary battles saving the world time and time again.”
As for the legacy they leave behind, Doom Patrol was the “wacky little show that could” that dazzled audiences with its vulgarity, hilarity, and, yes, insanity. Titans was a bit more of a mixed bag. The show inconsistent in tone and feel from the start and it didn’t smooth out for some as time went on.
Still, there will be many who will miss both shows, and it makes fans wonder what the heck the “new DCU” will be for live-action.
