Leading up to the release of Striking Distance Studios SciFi horror surivial title, The Callisto Protocol, I couldn’t stop talking about it, and for good reasons.
Here is this game that was penned as the spiritual successor to Dead Space, one of my favorite gaming series of all time. Everything seemed perfect, and the closer we got to the release date, the harder it was to contain my excitement. Then, the release happened, and outside of the PlayStation 5 versions, the Xbox Series X and PC versions were a train wreck. Granted, we often see a game get released to have a few issues, but this was simply unacceptable, and worse, it was frustrating. So, instead of reviewing the Xbox Series X version in the state, it is in, but thankfully getting better, we decided to delay the review of the title.
On that, we do want to apologize to our audience, as I know you want to know my thoughts on the game, as I couldn’t shut up about it. That and my earlier works comparing it to Dead Space. As well as to the PR team who provided us with a copy of the game.
Until all the kinks of the Xbox Series X and PC versions are resolved, we will delay the review of The Callisto Procotol. Now, you’re probably asking, why not review the PS5 version? Sure, we can do that, but here’s the dilemma. The PS5 and Xbox Series X hardware aren’t that much different. Sure, they have slight differences that separate the two, and on paper, the XSX is the more “powerful” console. Yet, here we are with the PS5 version being nearly perfect, while the Xbox Series X version was a stuttering mess.
Once SDS irons out the issues, and the consoles (and PC) versions are on par with each other, we’ll review the title. So, until then, thanks for asking and being a friendly and loyal audience.
