It’s been a while since CD Projekt Red announced it was working on a next-gen upgrade for The Witcher: 3, the studio has revealed that the upgrade will be available on December 14th, 2022. Just in time for the year ends, and I know that will make fans of the series happy.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunter Complete Edition will contain the next-gen update and will include dozens of visual, performance, and technical enhancements over the original. These include ray tracing support, faster loading times on consoles, as well as a variety of mods integrated into the experience, among many others. Along with new additional content inspired by Nextflix’s The Witcher series, which will be covered next week in a dedicated REDstreams event on Twitch, where the studio will present gameplay from the next-gen version of the game.
At first, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunter Complete Edition will be a digital-0nly release, but will have a physical release after the initial digital roll-out.
The next-gen upgrade will also be made separately for those who already own a PS4, Xbox One, or PC version of The Witcher 3, so no worrying about having to purchase The Witcher 3 all over again.
Lastly, the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions will also see some updates, and improvements, and the mentioned Nextflix’s The Witcher series content. More to come about that at a later date.
Don’t forget that CD Projekt Red is also working on several new titles, including a remake of the original The Witcher game. Revealed in October 2022, this remake will be made using Unreal Engine 5, and just started production, so it will be quite some time before we hear or see anything regarding The Witcher remake.
Then there’s the next chapter of The Witcher series, which will also use Unreal Engine 5, which was revealed in March 2022. Just like the remake, don’t expect to see or hear anything about this game for quite some time.
