NieR fans rejoice. The NieR Automata anime will begin airing in January 2023. It also has a formal title now: NieR Automata Ver. 1.1a . This was unveiled from Aniplex Online Fest Livestream on Saturday.
We have in the presentation Yoko Taro in his Emil head state explaining the concept and why he decided on this title. Basically, he said that it “wouldn’t be interesting” to simply retell the game as is in the anime. So likely we will see some more aspects and new additions to the world of NieR Automata. So consider this as another complementary media to the lore alongside the manga. Director will Ryoji Masuyama be involved in the project. Past works of his involvement are Kill la Kill, BlendS, and Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Character designs will be adapted by Jun Nakai, who also serves as Chief Animation Director. Nakai worked on shows like GATE, Mardock Scramble, and Lord El-Melloi II’s Case File.
We also have two character trailers of 2B and 9S.
With the trailers, it confirms the return of their original voice actors of Yui Ishikawa for 2B and Natsuki Hanae for 9S. Their drone-like companions, Pod 042 and Pod 153, will also be voiced by their game voice actors, Hiroki Yasumoto and Kaoru Akiyama. I look forward to the day when this is will be dubbed with Kira Buckland and Kyle McCarly. Glory to Mankind.
The Nier Automata Ver 1.1a anime premieres in January 2023 in Japan. The game is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The Nintendo Switch edition releases on October 6, 2022.
