You may remember a while back that the news (leaks) started being released on the internet regarding a specific Cloud-based handheld device from Logitech. Today, Logitech has officially revealed this device as the Logitech G Cloud during Logi Play 2022, Logitech’s first event focused on products for content creators and streamers.
The Logitech G Cloud will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor, which is found in several Android tablets and smartphones, paired with 4GB of RAM, powered by Google’s Android 11 operating system. The front will feature a 7-inch, 1080p IPS touch screen60 Hz refresh touch screen, A/B/X/Y buttons, asymmetrical thumbstick, left/right bumpers, and triggers. Bluetooth for connecting wireless headsets, and a physical 3.5mm stereo headphone jack is also included for audio and chatting.
It will support expandable storage, fast-charging, and allows for 12 hours of gaming battery life since it doesn’t need to power a beefy SOC. The Logitech G Cloud will allow you to access streaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming, Google Stadia, Nvidia GeForce Now, Steam, Amazon Luna, and support media consumption streaming. Xbox remote play and Steam Link are also supported, which is excellent if you want to have a cloud-less experience in the comfort of your home.
However, the Logitech G does include support LTE for 4G / 5G connections, which makes sense. It would not only cause the price to be raised but is kind of pointless. Most of us already use our phones or mobile hotspots to connect to the internet, and we’re in the age where we can walk a few feet down the street and have access to a hotspot.
The Logitech G Cloud will be released on October 17th, 2022, and priced at $349.99. However, if you pre-order it now over at Logitech’s website, you’ll get a discount, dropping the price down to $299.99. That price point is interesting, as Valve’s Steam Deck starts at $399.99. A system with a much more powerful chipset and also allows you to play Xbox, Steam, and Nvidia GeForce Now games, though some of that will require some effort on your part. Regardless, I feel Logitech should reevaluate that price, as I feel it’s too high for what it provides. Sure, access to streaming services, but that’s it. If you have no internet, the device is useless and for $50 more you can get a Steam Deck, that does more. But that’s just me.
It will be interesting to see how the Logitech G Cloud sells once it gets released. I’m definitely looking forward to getting my hands on one to see how it fares while gaming at home, and taking it on the go. Check back after October 17th, 2022, to see our impressions of the Logitech G Cloud.
