Yeah, you read the title of this piece right, the Dragon Ball x Fortnite crossover event has actually made Fortnite worth playing.
Personally, I’m not much of a Fortnite fan. I tried playing it in the early days when the game first started gaining popularity, and since I’m not able to build (or macro) the Empire State Building at the sound of a gunshot 500m away, or spin the mouse 180 degrees and shotgun a player in the face, or scream like a 12-year-old on an open mic. I find the combination of building and shooting not to be to my liking. However, I was playing a lot of Player Unknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) before that got killed thanks to the unlimited hackers and Chinese players filling up every lobby in each game.
However, if there is something that is going to get me interested in giving Fortnite another go is a crossover with something fun, like Dragon Ball, and also being asked to give the game a go by the PR company that represents Fortnite brand.
Now the Dragon Ball event isn’t sticking around long, which sucks because it’s the most fun you could have in Fortnite ever. What Dragon Ball brings to the Fortnite gameplay are two items: The Nimbus cloud, an item that sends you back up into the air and gliding back down as either a quick escape or a setup for the other item… The Kamehameha wave attack from the show. Using the Kamehameha, you charge up the attack from the show and do an OVERPOWERED amount of damage to the buildings and players alike. Seriously, this attack is so OP it can kill a player from full health and shields in one blast. Hearing Goku’s voice clip in sync with the attack will have you more on edge than any gunshot ever will.
So, what else can you do outside of the gameplay stuff in the Fortnite x Dragon Ball event? Well, I’m glad you asked.
One of the big things I would recommend you do is go to the exclusive Dragon Ball Adventure Island: A series of Dragon Ball-related areas where you can do PvP battles using only Kamehameha attacks and collect capsules through all the areas, and much more. I’ll drop in the PR spiel about this area below as it can show you more than I can tell you here:
Explore inspired by iconic locations from Dragon Ball. Soar through a ring course on a Nimbus Cloud (Kintoun) at Kami’s Palace, prepare food at Goku’s House, and traverse an obstacle course at the Room of Spirit & Time. These are just some of the challenges you will face on your mission to collect the Dragon Balls.
When you’re ready, test your power in an open player-vs-player battle arena “Tenkaichi Budokai,” or just continue to explore!
Believe me, this is one of those things I would highly recommend any Dragon Ball fan go and spend some time in, as the areas you visit look so good that you’ll think they are ripped right out of the anime itself… And those of you who go and collect all 7 Dragon Balls in this mode will get to see one of the most AWESOME scenes from Dragon Ball in such incredible detail that you’ll never want to move back into the starting area.
Speaking of the 7 Dragon Balls, it wouldn’t be a crossover if you weren’t doing something involving getting those wonderful orbs in Fortnite too. By doing a series of quests through normal gameplay, you’ll earn yourself a Dragon Ball from one of seven series of challenges. When you collect them all, your wish is granted, and you’ll obtain the Shenron Glider to use in-game.
The challenges aren’t too hard; you only need to do 3 per category to gain your Dragon Ball. By the time of writing, I have played for three days, and I’ve managed to obtain 6 of the 7 Dragon Balls for myself, leaving me one step from getting the Shenron Glider.
And that’s not all!

Look, as I said in the beginning, I’m not a Fortnite fan or hardcore player, but this Dragon Ball crossover event has got me playing almost nighty with one of my friends (See a recent stream here) who also hasn’t touched Fortnite in a really long time. The event looks to have brought a lot of people back to the game, and since there is now a no-build game mode, it might be enough to keep people playing for a long time to come… And also gives me a chance to scream “VICTORY FOR VEGETA!!” when we get that Victory Royale.
While the event is around, jump into a game, try to get the Nimbus and Kamehameha attack from either random capsules that land in the game, or buy them from Bulma on Kame’s Island (Yes, Kame House is in the main Battle Royale game mode now) for some gold, blow up a few people, and get that golden victory for yourself. Maybe if you do, then we might get lucky and have the items stick around as Vader does in the game.
