During the Xbox and Bethesda 2022 showcase, we got a short look at an upcoming Metroidvania title called “The Last Case of Benedict Fox.” Today Rogue Games has released extended gameplay at the title, so we can all get a better idea of what the game is about.
This gameplay video features Benedict exploring the massive, decrepit mansion and strange world of Limbo, the demon realm manifested by the memories of the deceased. Benedict will have to discover clues while navigating both worlds in order to piece together the mystery behind the fate of the residents of this house, along with his demon companion, and the occult Order stalking him at every turn.
In this extended look, we’ll see some combat, puzzles, and exploration. All of which is the significant bits of a Metroidvania and, if not done right, can ruin a game.
Take a look at the extended gameplay below.
If there’s anything I can take away from this extended look of the gameplay, it is that this game looks stunning. The backgrounds and animation look incredible in motion. The combat hasn’t clicked with me yet, but the game is still early on, so there’s time.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox will arrive in Spring 2023 for the Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
