Double Masters 2022 is a booster-based compilation set. It is designed to be drafted. The set will be released on July 8, 2022.
Double Masters 2022 features the same elements as the original Double Masters that was released in 2020. Each Draft Booster features two rare and/or mythic rare cards plus two foil cards. Many reprints feature new artwork. Double Masters 2022 contains 332 cards and includes randomly inserted premium versions of all but one card. One new card with an L-Rarity shows up in every booster. Select cards with a “textured foil” treatment can be found in Collector Boosters.
Double Masters 2022 is sold in 17-card Draft Boosters, Draft Packs, and Collector Boosters. Each Draft Booster contains a combination of 2–4 cards of rarity Rare or higher, 3–5 Uncommon, 8–10 Common, and 1 Cryptic Spire. Two cards of any rarity are Traditional Foil. Each Collector Booster contains 15 cards and 1 Traditional Foil double-sided token, with a combination of 4 cards of rarity Rare or higher, 2–6 Uncommon, and 5–9 Common cards. Every pack contains 10–11 Traditional Foil cards and 1 Rare or Mythic Rare foil-etched card.
“So what are the cards?” I hear you asking. Well there are lists of announced cards out there, but today I get the honor to reveal one of the cards from the set, and that card is…
The rare level Balefire Liege! Looking like an absolute monster, Balefire Liege comes in at a 5 mana cost (2 generic and 3 either red or white mana) and gives you so much versatility that this is going to be one of THE cards to have in any red/white deck for either standard or Commander. When Balefire Liege is in play, other red creatures you control get +1/+1 (aka gaining one strength and one defense), white creatures you control also get +1/+1, and then if that wasn’t enough; when you cast a red spell, you can target either a player or planeswalker; and when you cast a white spell, you gain 3 life.
Having Balefire Liege on the field is going to grow all your red and white creatures (Hello flying Angels of buff death!) and then you get bonus actions for casting red or white spells. In a standard deck, Balefire Liege looks to be a huge must-have for full-field play and will be devastating if you drop it at the right time in Commander… I know what’s going into my decks from now on!
