The Story
The majority of the seventh volume’s story takes place in the rabbitfolk village. Framea’s father convinces her to return home where she confronts the Elder; however, Rimiru decided to tag along as he was interested in seeing Framea’s village for himself.
When they arrived, Rimiru is captured and thrown into a holding cell! The Elder instructs Framea to remain in the village; however, Framea has no desire to do so. This ends up becoming a situation in which the Elder threatens harm to Rimiru without realizing just who he truly is! That all changes when Rimiru lets himself out of his holding cell but before he can demonstrate that he really is the demon lord of Tempest, we are paid a visit by Veldora!
Veldora does a great job scaring everyone, including the Elder. There, he sees that Rimiru is truly the demon lord and his tune QUICKLY changes! All ends up being resolved and then the volume goes into a couple of episodic chapters… one where they play dodgeball (complete with exploding clothes!) and one where they take up an anti-crime initiate which ends with someone wishing to pay Rimiru a visit!
Characters
You have to hand it to Framea as she really did a good job standing up for herself against the Elder. She knew that she didn’t want to live a life as the next village chief and she stuck to her ideals no matter what. It did cause a bit of an issue but once everyone realized that Rimiru was the demon lord, Framea’s chances of living the life she wants just went WAY up to a guaranteed status!
Framea’s father, though… was a bit annoying. Sure, he was awe-struck and nervous around Rimiru but I think they overdid it a bit. Being on pins and needles was the understatement of the century with him but it did pay off when the Elder had no idea who Rimiru was. It did set the stage for some nice comedy but it made me wonder just why he didn’t tell the Elder who Rimiru was? I think the rabbitfolk need a chief with a little more backbone!
Final Word
While one-off chapters are fine, it was nice to see a long-running story! It began at the end of the sixth volume and carried through four of the six chapters in this one! I almost wish this story went a bit longer as I had become quite invested in it. That’s the pros and cons with a series that merely handles its chapters as separate entities that are tied to a whole… is that when they do introduce a longer-running story arc, it makes you realize just how much better it is.
I know that’s not always the case but I feel that it works better in this situation. Be that as it may, the last couple of chapters were fun and it’s looking as it we might be starting another story arc in the next volume! Here’s hoping that it runs a bit longer, too!
