Activision has revealed the release date for Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, along with the game’s hefty $70 price tag when it arrives on the PC.
Fans of Call of Duty will recall that when Activision and Blizzard merged, its games had moved to Blizzard’s Battle.net service. And ever since then, every Call of Duty game released had ignored Steam. Well, things are changing, and Call of Duty is heading back to Steam. With it comes a $70 price tag. And that’s just for the standard version of the game! If you want the Vault Edition of Modern Warfare, you’ll have to shell out another $30 more.
The last Call of Duty game released on Steam was back in 2015, with Call of Duty Black Ops III, and it’s still priced at $59.99. That’s a seven-year-old game still priced as a new game.
Typically, when people discuss the PC as a viable gaming platform, one of the thing reasons why it is so popular is game pricing. On the PC, you can find games that are usually cheaper than their console counterparts. While services such as Green Man Gaming have provided discounts that would lower those prices even more. It wasn’t unheard of to find a new game priced $10-15 cheaper.
It just goes to show that nothing good lasts forever, and with Activison doing this, chances are other publishers could follow suit with their AAA releases. Sure, it’s not unheard of for a game to be priced at $70 or more on the PC. However, those titles are deluxe editions that provide more than just the base game.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, not to be confused with the 2009 game of the same name, releases this October 28th, 2022. It will be available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
