Kingdom Hearts 4 was revealed today, much to the delight of Kingdom Hearts fans everywhere
It’s starting to look more and more like that Nvidia leak was right on the money, as Kingdom Hearts 4 was revealed not too long along. During the Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary Event, fans were treated to a video that showcased another upcoming Kingdom Hearts title, Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link.
Following that, the video cut to the title “Lost Master Arc,” followed by a familiar world that had been the debate of Kingdom Hearts fans for quite some time. Then, another familiar thing showed up; Sora. As explained, Sora arrived in this world seven years ago and has been asleep the entire time. This follows the events of Kingdom Hearts 3, as Sora disappears due to using his Power of Waking. Not only have we been told what happened to Sora, but we’re looking at Quadratum, a world introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3.
Check out our review of Kingdom Hearts 3.
What’s interesting about Quadratum is that it doesn’t fit the normal worlds in Kingdom Hearts games. It’s not a world of light or dark but of fiction. But going further, Quadratum is a world that only existed as a video game in Toy Box, the world in Kingdom Hearts 3 based on Disney’s Pixar movies. It’s a world based in another world but as a video game. Turns out, it’s real after all, and in Kingdom Hearts 4, it looks as if the game will, at the very least, start in Quadratum.
What’s more, Kingdom Hearts is far from over, as this part 4 will kick off a new arc, the Lost Master Arc. Square Enix definitely knows how to milk a gaming series, that’s for sure. Lastly, who are Donald and Goofy looking for at the end of that video?
I’ll leave it up to you to decide.
As for the game engine, Kingdom Hearts 4 was using the Unreal Engine 4, but now that Unreal Engine 5 is out, the game will transition to that. Per Epic Games, developers can easily migrate projects from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5.
Speaking of Kingdom Hearts fans, we have a few here at The Outerhaven. But perhaps, none is more invested in the entire story than our own Scott Adams. He wrote an entire article about his times with the games and what they meant to him. You can check out his “Ode to Kingdom Hearts” right here.
We don’t know which platforms Kingdom Hearts 4 will arrive on. Though it’s a safe bet that it will be available for the PlayStation 5, we’re not so sure about the Xbox Series X|S or PC platforms. Based on the past few years. But given that Kingdom Hearts 3 eventually made its way to the Xbox and PC platforms, who knows.
As for when the game will be available, this is at least another 2 to 3 years away. But who knows. Maybe Square Enix has been working on this ever since Kingdom Hearts 3 shipped and managed to keep it somewhat on the hush. I say, somewhat, as Kingdom Hearts 4 was mentioned on that massive Nvidia leak that seems to never leave the spotlight.
Now is as good a time to jump into the Kingdom Hearts series, despite being convoluted. There are a lot of games to play to understand the entire story across consoles and handhelds.
