The Story
Framea’s adventures in Tempest continue! The photographs are starting to take off so Rimuru has an idea and asks Framea to pay a visit to Luminus to try and get some pictures. While she’s a little reluctant at first, she and Hinata end up posing for several photos… all of which are to Rimuru’s liking! Photographs can only take you so far which is why Rimuru takes the next steps and creates a video camera. Framea’s new job is to go around and begin filming parts of Tempest so that they can put together a highlight video to attract new visitors to the city.
After that, we learn of a dark shadow over Lake Sisu. The people who see the shadow turn to Rimuru for help. Framea is sent to investigate and ends up becoming bait to lure out what has been causing them so much trouble! From there, we get another quick adventure where they take a bunch of monsters from a dungeon and create a “safe” zoo for people to visit as a new attraction.
Lastly, we get to something that seems as if it’s not going to be a one-off adventure. There’s a bit of a commotion back in Jura, the land where Framea hails from. An interesting tidbit is revealed about her and the village chief has been ordered to bring her back. Framea’s father journeys to Tempest where he finds her and asks her to return without really explaining much. They go to Rimuru who hears the whole tale and wonders why Framea never went back home to visit. He says that she should do so and this is where our volume comes to an end.
Characters
Once again, we are centered around Framea in this volume. Adventures aside, the reveal about Framea in the final chapter puts a new spin on her character and, like her father, you wonder why she hasn’t gone back to Jura to at least visit. None of the people in her village know why she has been gone for so long as she hasn’t kept any open lines of communication with them. After learning who she is, it’s pretty obvious why she doesn’t want to go back… or, at least, has been putting it off for as long as possible.
While characters such as Luminus, Hinata, Fuze, and others were a part of this volume, they all propped up Framea from beginning to end. Still, their individual personalities helped create another entertaining read!
Final Word
This spinoff series seemed to return to one-off chapters but there was still some continuity being had… especially when it came to the whole camera aspect. Upgrading to video was the next logical step and I love how Rimuru is just casually introducing the real world’s culture into Tempest. Although some people were perplexed over the camera, I didn’t really get that when video was introduced. I guess after seeing the “magic” of the camera, they were more accepting of the concept of video without questioning it too much.
Despite the problem at Lake Sisu, it was another opportunity to see our favorite characters in scantily clad attire. Gotta love fanservice chapters… especially since we just came off of one in the last volume where they all went to the beach. Two beach episodes in two volumes? Why not?
I do not know how long this spinoff plans to run; however, with the story introduced in the final chapter, it makes you wonder if it is, somehow, coming to an end? It’s pretty obvious at this point that either Framea is going to go back home and being thanked by Rimuru for all that she has done or she’s going to make the decision to stay and we’ll either say goodbye to the series at that point or just use it as an excuse to extend it even further. Most spinoff series don’t have a full run like most popular manga and at volume six, it seems as if the novelty is starting to slow down so an ending may be being built up.
Then again, it could end up being so popular, we’ll get 20 more volumes! Who knows? We’ll see what Framea’s decision is next volume!
