In today’s Nintendo Direct, we were shown more of Splatoon 3. This time is the return of Salmon Run. But it is now named Salmon Run Next Wave.
We see the familiar gameplay that was present in Splatoon 2. This time, instead of a boat, players will be coming in via copter. We see the familiar Boss Salmonids including two new types: The Fish Stick and the Flipper-Flopper. The Fish Stick will have a group of flying salmonids carrying a tower to planted and will rain ink to stall players. The FLipper-Flopper will toss a ring to players in which the area in the ring will flip the ink’s color. The only way to counter it is to change the ink in the area back to orange so it damages itself.
Also, a new mechanic shown off is that players can now toss Eggs. So now players can pass eggs to each other or even to the basket should the situation calls for it. So now you can be Kobe and shoot your eggs to the basket.
Finally, the trailer ends with a look at a very big and large Boss Salmonid. It gave a very Godzilla-like roar before the trailer ends. Likely players will face this boss one way or another. Though it does make me wonder if the ink cannons will return to combat such a foe. Regardless, it seems Salmon Run will continue the chaotic and hectic gameplay that you know from Splatoon 2.
Splatoon 3 is set for a Summer 2022 release.
