Earlier today, Capcom took to Twitter to unveil its official logo for the 35th anniversary of Street Fighter. Damn, has it been that long since the series has been going? It just makes me feel that much older, and I’m 45!
This new logo takes a minimalist approach compared to the 30th anniversary Street Fighter logo. Or prior logos, for that matter. It doesn’t feature any iconic Street Fighter in a pose, which has piqued my curiosity. Mainly because every logo to celebrate the history of Street Fighter had featured Ryu, who has been the mainstay of the series. With no one being featured for the latest logo, it made me wonder if Capcom is sending a message. I know it’s likely me reading into it too much, but it’s still odd that Ryu didn’t make a return for the 35th-anniversary logo.
What’s also different usually is when Capcom celebrates a Street Fighter anniversary, there’s usually something else to go along with the news. A soundtrack effort, a collection of games, or joysticks and gamepads. For now, there hasn’t been anything announced. Which again strikes me as odd. Surely, Capcom has something planned. Yet we haven’t a clue to what that might be.
As for the celebratory 35th anniversary logo, you see it in all its glory below.
To give you an idea of how the previous anniversary logos looked like, I’d supplied both the 30th and 25th anniversary logos for you to enjoy.
As for the next Street Fighter title, no one outside of Capcom knows what’s going on. We don’t know if it will be multiplatform (but it needs to be), who’ll make up the fighters for the roster, or even the timeline. We’ll just have to wait and see what Capcom has planned for the future – yes the next fight for the future.
I have fond memories of the series that started when I first played the first Street Fighter at the now closed-down bar. One that I shouldn’t have been allowed to gain access to, but the owner had no issues having children enjoying themselves in the bar’s arcade. Damn, those were the days.
I’m looking forward to the next 35 years of Street Fighter, even if I likely won’t be able to participate in them.
