Gundam movie based around episode Cucuruz Doan’s Island announced

By Keith MitchellDecember 21, 2021

Out of nowhere, Sunrise dropped some news on a new upcoming movie based on the original episode 15 of the series, called Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island. Fans of the series will understand why this movie is a big deal. No worries if you’re not as I’ll explain it to you.

A trailer was released that features some of the original footage before the new CG footage was shown. Yes, this will be CG, and I can already hear the people going, “Bad CG….”. Thanks for that, Gigguk“

Cucuruz Doan’s Island was the original 15th episode of the original series and was not aired anywhere for English-based markets. The only way to watch it was if you had access to the Japanese version of the series or other means. As for why this episode was omitted, the creator of the Mobile Suit Gundam series, Yoshiyuki Tomino, was blunt over why. He felt the episode wasn’t on par with the other episodes and had asked for it to be omitted. This is the only episode from the series that was never dubbed or subtitled. The only way to watch this episode is to own the original DVD, and Blu-Ray set that was only released in Japan. Consider it “The Lost Gundam Episode”, if you may.

The movie will be released in Summer 2022, outside of any unforeseen delays.

For Mobile Suit Gundam fans starving for more content while you wait for Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash part two. They should keep this on their radar.
