While anyone who’s followed Fromsoftware’s upcoming title Elden Ring is aware that George R.R. Martin was attached to the game. It was pretty hard not to know as everyone, including Fromsoftware, had been shoving the info into your face on a daily basis.
The famous writer has been quiet about exactly what he had contributed to the project. While he had been involved for quite some time, he never made it known what he was doing. That is until recently, as George R.R. Martin made it known what he provided to the creation of the game over on his personal blog.
He mentions that while he wasn’t big on video games, he did play a few back in his early days. However, when Fromsoftware came knocking, he saw the work they were doing, and the offer to come work with them was too good to pass up. As for what George contributed to the project, well, he did what he knew what to do best; world-building. Fromsoftware needed someone to plant the seeds of a dark world, and it just so happened that George R.R. Martin was an expert at this.
The rest, shall we say, is history. George R.R. Martin crafted this world, handled his work over to Hidetaka Miyazaki and crew, who took it from there.
As for Elden Ring, we’ll all find out just what the collaboration between George R.R. Martin and Fromsoftware ultimately results in. But those who’ve followed the game, and obsessed over every morsel of information they could find, is more than ready to dive in. Speaking of which, so am I. Being someone who’s obsessed over the Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne titles, I’ve been following everything I could regarding Elden Ring. Being able to play the prior Elden Ring Network Test was the cherry on top; I need to get my hands on this game and lock myself away for a few days.
Elden Ring has a release date of February 25, 2022, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
