What the heck did I just watch?
During The Game Awards 2021 show, we’ve seen all sorts of reveals and announcements. But none of those were half as weird as what we saw from Bokeh Game Studio, as it revealed the first look at Sllitterhead. Seriously, I was literally on the edge of my chair, going, “what the hell is this?” both laughing and perplexed. If you’re looking forward to a game that’s heavy with Japanese-themed horror. Then you’re getting that and more with this game.
I’m still at a loss for what I saw, so let’s just leave this as a horror game that features lots of horrific creatures. Well, that’s the best way to describe it as we didn’t receive any mention of just what the heck was going on in the trailer.
Seriously, if the first 24 seconds of the trailer doesn’t leave you searching your head going “WTF”, then I don’t know what else would.
What is Slitterhead?
Folklore creatures with plenty of nightmare fuel, Hong Kong slums (possibly), people falling from the skies, a sword formed from someone’s blood, and that’s just a few things that we saw. Oh, and that first 24-seconds. Come on people… why is it that you fall down every time your life depends on it.
If you’re asking me about what the game is, I told you I have no idea. However, Slitterhead is the product from one Keiichiro Toyama. You may remember his name attached to several games, including Snatcher, Gravity Rush., and the iconic Silent Hill series. Being the father of Silent Hill, this should indicate what we’re in store for with Slitterhead.
Seeing how we haven’t had a Silent Hill game for years and wanting to get back to working on games in the horror genre, Keiichiro Toyama departed ways with Sony Interactive Entertainment back in 2020. Following suit, he founded Bokeh Game Studio Inc and set out to work on the darker side of games, which he enjoyed working on. With Slitterhead, he’s back working on just that, games that tell a darker story, and the trailer is evident of that.
Joining Keiichiro is someone quite familiar with darker and quirky games, music composer Akira Yamaoka. For the past few years, he’s been producing those lovely tunes for various games, including Dead by Daylight’s Silent Hill DLC, Let it Die, and The Medium. It’s nice to see those two working together again, even if I still don’t know what’s going on.
As for when we’ll see Slitterhead or what platforms it’s headed to, I have no idea. For now, head on over to the Bokeh Game Studio Inc website for more details as they’re released.
