Turns out, we will not be seeing you, space cowboy. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Netflix has passed on renewing the live-action Cowboy Bebop for a second season.
The adaptation of the beloved 1990s anime was met with mixed reviews, with fans and critics alike seeming to agree that the show didn’t quite manage to recapture the magic of the original show. Still, mileage did vary and the show had fans looking forward to seeing more plots developed, especially since the final episode revealed the arrival of a fan-favorite character. Whether it was the show’s poor critical reception or if there was some other factor that led to the cancellation is still unclear.
John Cho, who played the main character Spike Spiegel, has this to say about the news:

Cowboy Bebop follows a rag-tag group of interstellar bounty hunters as they try to catch big bounties while dealing with their demons and dark pasts. The show starred Cho, as well as Mustafa Shakir as Jet and Daniella Pineda as Faye.
