Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl at first seems like just another remaster of a past Pokemon title, this time the Diamond/Pearl games from the DS era. But for some, this is their first time getting these titles and focusing on these Pokemon. And that apparently might be why (aside from people with nostalgia for the older generations) the game is selling so well.
We already documented that in the UK the game is doing well. But now, Famitsu is reporting that Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has sold 1.396 million copies…in just its first three days in the nation. That includes the singular versions of the title, the combo pack, and the download cards! Just as impressive, that DOESN’T include the eShop downloads, so it’s possibly at 1.5 million just in Japan. Factor in the UK and the US (of which we don’t have numbers yet) and it’s very possible that these remasters have already sold over 3 million units.
Furthermore, in Japan, this puts it as the best Switch launch outside of only Animal Crossing New Horizons.
This bodes well for not just these games long-term, but for Pokemon Legends Arceus, as fans will likely want an even fresher experience in “Sinnoh” in just two months’ time.
