First Gameplay For Marvel’s Midnight Suns Revealed

By Ryan EasbySeptember 1, 2021

After a hell (heh, no pun intended) of a reveal during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Firaxis & Marvel’s Midnight Suns today revealed the first glimpse of Midnight Suns gameplay at the anticipated title along with showing more of the cast of characters.

Judging by the gameplay, it’s a malleable experience. You get to customize your character in an in-depth character creator and make your own little piece of the Marvel universe. You’ve just been revived by the desperate Midnight Suns who are searching for any possible way to defeat the recently resurrected Lillith, mother of all demons, who are looking to bring back her master. Representatives from all corners of the Marvel universe will be part of the game too, meaning it should satisfy even the most niche Marvel fan.

Firaxis also spoke about team-ups and combo moves that can do damage en-masse and show off the power of your team, plus teased that you’ll be able to unlock a huge collection of additional costumes.

The game will also have a card system for combat and upgrades while remaining turn-based akin to XCOM. You’re dealt a random hand of abilities that you must use strategically to beat your enemies or face the consequences. Winning requires the use of your brain and the collective skills of your team, you’re not going to win this alone.

Throughout the course of the game, you’ll be able to talk to your fellow Midnight Suns and create bonds with them in a hub world known as the Abbey. The Abbey itself offers a ton to do outside of the conversation, including daily activities you can do with your team members which in and of itself will unlock new more powerful abilities that you cannot get any other way. Firaxis themselves have stated that the game will be extremely different from XCOM and that it’s unlike anything they’ve developed before.

I’m looking forward to seeing more from the game as we inch ever closer to release, and if they keep up the pace of reveals I’m more than likely going to be picking this one up on day one. It’s so refreshing to see such a new take on the Marvel Universe, and I just hope that Firaxis can stick the landing.

Currently, Marvel’s Midnight Suns release date is unknown, as are the platforms that the game will be released on. That said, what did you think about the gameplay reveal today? Let us know in the comments.
