Many fans were surprised when Hyrule Warriors Age Of Calamity was announced. But as time went on and the details of the game were made, it was clear that this was going to be much more than we realized. Then, when it came out, fans were blown away by its awesomeness (including us, read our review!). And now, the team behind the game are pulling back the curtain a bit so that fans know what it took to bring this “prequel” to life.
Producers Yosuke Hayashi and Masaki Furusawa, along with director Ryota Matsushita talked with Dengeki Online about various topics in regards to the title. One of the biggest ones being about how they recreated a world that was going to be destroyed very soon due to the Calamity that was Ganon.
“The first thing we had to do was adjust the environment to be suitable for combat. We had to simultaneously make the world appear as it would 100 years prior and while making it an appropriate battlefield.
“100 years” and “battlefield” were our keywords. We had to imagine things like the enemy’s bases and destroyed city walls from the ruins in Breath of the Wild. We were designing a battlefield in a way that blends our keywords with hints such as enemy forts that stood 100 years prior.”
A very interesting way to go about things. But what about characters? Hyrule Warriors Age Of Calamity had a robust roster of unique fighters, how did they go about picking and choosing who to put in the game?
“We were conscious of two things: First was to meet player expectations and the second was to betray and exceed those expectations. Being able to unlock and use a character is a great reward, especially in musou games. We wanted to surprise players and keep the next battle exciting. “
They certainly did that as the game sold many-millions and many feel a sequel to Age of Calamity might just happen in the future.
